What's a console RPG that looks very moe, but turns out to have dark themes?
Main Post:
I don't know why, but I felt like discussing those kind of games as lately I had been wondering to myself if there was a game out there that looked very moe, (such as the Ryza games) but then turned out to have dark or mature themes, such as the idea of human sacrifice.
I am not sure if there is a trope for such RPGs, but to me, it sounded like an interesting idea for a game as it could also reflect on the gameplay, such as having to make decisions that could later lead to some dark consequences such as fighting more aggressive monsters depending on what path the player chooses.

Blue reflection sort of.
The Moe Game Awards 2021 are in ...
Main Post: The Moe Game Awards 2021 are in ...
Top Comment: First off, this news is at least a day old, apologies if it has been posted already, but I couldn't find anything. Grand Prize: 創作彼女の恋愛公式 (80) – Sōsaku Kanojo no Ren'ai Kōshiki (7.7) 5 awards, shortlisted for 2 more. One of the awards is for the "memorable" line 「今までありがとう。わたしの最初で、最後の恋した人」. No, I'm not joking. What? From the reviews I had this pegged as a promising first attempt at a charage at best. Scenario: Sōsaku Kanojo Scenario [shortlist]: 冥契のルペルカリア (82) – Meikei no Lupercalia (8.3) There we have it. Incontrovertible proof that these awards are rigged. Innovation: Monkeys!¡ (80) – Monkeys!¡ (8.2) Shortlisted for 4 more. notable nukige [not actually a prize]: Role player:小粥姉妹の粘膜ポトレ ぐりぐちゃLIVE! (82) – Role Player: Okayu Shimai no Nenmaku Portrait - Gurigucha Live! (8.25) 1 award, shortlisted for another 3. I've come across this often enough now to conclude that it's really popular. The ratings are really quite impressive for a nukige. honourable mention [also not a prize]: ふゆから、くるる。 (77) – Fuyukara, Kururu. (7.42) Shortlisted for both the grand prize and the scenario one, and 1 more; but only actually won sound. Well, if you're interested in the series, this is probably on your radar already, anyway. 2021 really has not been a good year ... EDIT: Use the vote average (not the Bayesian score) for VNDB throughout.
2019 Moe Game Award Results
Main Post:
Link to full results here: http://moe-gameaward.com/prize/2019/index.html
This seems to be the only industry-based awards for VNs, and it's a nice indication of the games Japanese insiders and users enjoyed from the past year. They come with nice messages from the creators, as well as writeups from the contributors if you're interested in reading some of them. The awards seem to be determined by a combination of fan votes and insider opinions, but I couldn't find anything about the exact methodology.
Grand Prize Winner: Nukitashi 2
Runner Ups: Tamayura Mirai, Da Capo 4, Kimagure Temptation
User Choice Award: Tamayura Mirai
Scenario Awards: Sakura, Moyu, Musicus, Aonatsu Line
Anything that surprised you? Anything that you're interested in playing?
Top Comment: Finished reading Sakura, Moyu yesterday. Easily one of the best vns I've read in the last 10 years. It's got its share of issues, but still made me feel like I was 20 again and reading F/sn for the first time, falling in love with the medium. I've been stuck with 5 favourite vns for a very long time; gotta need an additional finger to count now. Aonatsu Line was really enjoyable as well, though I probably wouldn't rank it quite as high in terms of story / scenario. It's got its specific charm and atmosphere, and is a delight to read, which were probably key factors in it ranking in that high. I'm only 3 hours into Musicus, so no idea how good it is, but I'm slowly getting hooked. I've never even considered reading Nukitashi and am super surprised to see its sequel being so well-received. Might give it a try after all.
Moe's fury late game build
Main Post:
Hello ! I just entered into late game with anomalies, and i loved using the fist that makes fist of fury range and double attack speed (moe's fury fists) Sooo im wondering if any of you tried to build around this unique passive, or if any of you has a good idea of what to use with that unique passive (can use rune to put it in another fists)
Top Comment:
More realistically you would turn it into a rune and apply it to another fist. There are builds that use a Unique as a rune: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=U3bOXkpe4Oo that build uses the Helm 'o War Unique.
Questions on H3: SMU Game Theory, MOE Pharma Chem & MOE Physics
Main Post:
My friends and I (H2 PCME students) have some questions on those H3 modules. We are putting them all in one thread so we don’t spam this subreddit. We would appreciate answers to any of these questions, from people who’ve previously taken these modules: SMU Game Theory, MOE Pharma Chem or MOE Physics.
Questions applicable to all modules:
- What was each class like? (General format/style, expected pre-class preparations, etc.)
- How manageable was the content? (Intuitive or hard to grapple with, etc.)
- How manageable was the workload? (Time spent on the subject, amount of homework, etc.) Perhaps in comparison to your other subjects at that time. As stated above, we are all H2 PCME students.
- What was the quality of teaching/resources provided like?
Question specific to SMU Game Theory:
- What’s the extent of math involved? Do we need a strong background in Statistics?
Question specific to Pharm Chem:
- What is the difficulty of the H3 syllabus compared to the standard H2 Chem syllabus?
Questions about H3 in general
- How helpful are they in obtaining scholarships?
- What distinctions are there between taking a Uni H3 and MOE H3, in terms of scholarship applications (if any)?
I personally am aiming for SMU Game Theory. Would really appreciate answers for this module because it was last offered in 2013 and I do not know any seniors that far back...
Any other useful insights would be awesome too. Thank you!
TLDR: Answers to any of the above questions would be great :)

What’s the extent of math involved?
I didn't do it at JC level, but even at uni level, the math in Game Theory isn't too difficult. The concepts can be tough to grasp, but the calculations shouldn't be a problem for student's who are aceing H2 math.
How helpful are they in obtaining scholarships?
Honestly? Not very helpful. UNLESS you are applying for a research scholarship. It's much more important to get straight A's for your PCME, and hopefully GP and PW.
For scholarship applications, would say these are more important than a H3:
- "leadership" experience
- Experience and achievement in the area you are interested in
- A's in your content subjects
- Sport's Trophies (Especially if you are interested in a school scholarship)
TL;DR Take the H3 if you think it won't affect other aspect's of your school life. If not, there are more important things to do.

MoE question: does the MoE requirement count the last 50 games or the last 100 games, and is it weighted?
Main Post:
I am trying to 3-mark the M4A3E8. I'm currently very close to three mark requirement at 52 games (only a few dozen combined damage away), but I haven't even two-marked it, not even close, and the rising pace of the percentage is already slowing down. So is it 50 or 100 games and is it weighted? Cuz I performed TERRIBLE (like 0.6 K/D) in my first 15 games but if you only count recent 37 games then I would have already "three-marked" it. But if you only count the recent 50 games I should be at 92% or 93% something while actually I'm only at 76%.
Top Comment: It's last 100 games, and until you have at least 100 games it is averaged/weighted as if it was 100, so you can have a tank with 2k reqs, and be running an average of 3k combined for 50 games, but it still somewhat acts like the other 50 games required to make it 100 were 0, bringing it down to roughly 75% It has a recency bias on a weighted exponential scale, favouring recent battles over old ones as well.
This game has filled the void that was left when the M.O.E. servers went down
Main Post:
I know it’s a long shot, but did anyone play M.O.E. (Master of Eternity) around 2018? It was a sci-fi/mech mobile gacha game with visual novel elements. When the servers for MOE went down, I tried to find a similar game but I couldn’t find one as entertaining or fun.
I downloaded NIKKE a few days ago and that same feeling I had playing MOE came back. Did any other ex-MOE fans find comfort in this game?
Top Comment:
TBH, I did back in the days.
The game offered some good interactions with the girls, and we each have our favorite pixie greeting us each login. Some episodes were funny and amazed me.
PvE was a bit hard and PvP meta was only at its beginnings. Many people played sniper cleave with movement buff mechs. I remember that one team I made using four assault mechs and Jeanie's mech, the Elder and made my way to the rankings on Global. Unfortunately it closed down like 3-4 months iirc after the PvP mode was released.
When the game closed down, I switched to another gacha, but some didn't have the same feeling as MOE did. But NIKKE has some similarities, except the atmosphere of the game which is a bit darker.
Take this as one of MOE's veteran player's memoirs.
